Banbury, Barton, St Albans & Melksham

Over the last week a select few members have trotted off around the South of England to compete in a veriety of races.

Starting with the old 'uns, Richard Inchley once again did the Banbury 5 as the East Midlands Grand Prix series nears it's end. It was Richard's third race in the series which culminates at the Milton Keynes 10K on the 29th June. He completed the course in just over 40 minutes and wasn't too impressed with his time so is going to Market Harborough this week to try to beat it!

Our most senior member, John Adam trolled off to Barton-Le-Clay this weekend for their undulating 10K race. John's time of 57.33 saw him come home in 77th out of 106 finishers. Whilst John was running around Barton, Tim Bacon and Fiona Towell went down to St Albans for the half marathon. With nearly 2000 finishers, it one of the biggest races in the area and for the last few years has been run on a scorching hot day. The weather this year was not quite the same and Tim and Fiona both comfortably completed the course in 1:39 and 2:06 respectively.

On the 14th June two LBAC members headed to Wiltshire on a five and a half hour round trip to take part in the Melksham 5km. A race that has this year been resurrected after a 21 year break (last run in 1989!), and is well know for being [fairly] flat and fast.
In what were almost perfect conditions although with a slight blustery wind around the start/finish Joby Hobbs completed the race in 17 minutes 55 seconds in 4th place overall. Having run 17 minutes 56 seconds on the track at the County Championships in May Joby believes this new time to be a P.B.!! A fast finishing Jill Richardson then came home as first V40 female (4th female overall) in 23rd place with a time of 21 minutes 57 seconds.
