Bearbrook 10k – Club Champs Race

Bearbrook 10k

Sunday 6th August was the date of the Bearbrook 10k, which this year was the LBAC Club Championship race for that distance.

Over the years there have been all sorts of weather with a particularly memorable time a few years ago when Hurricane Bertha came to visit.

This year however, the conditions were much calmer and pretty good for a run up a hill and down again although it was getting a little warm out there towards the end.

There was a big turn out of 21 members from the club racing, but the victorious two were Andy Inchley who is edging ever close to a sub 35 minute 10k again with a time of 35:07 and Vice Captain Jo Sharples, who finished in 43:19 before then running the 14miles back to Leighton Buzzard as part of her marathon training! Andy also picked up second place in the v40 category.

Elsewhere in the field, Steve Sharples ran his first race in the purple and gold of LBAC and finished in an impressive time of 39:09 and nabbed the bronze in the v50 category.

Tim Inchley, Adam Haylock and Ben Corfield had a right old ding-dong battle finishing with only 4 seconds between them, Adam pipping the other two who finished with the exact same chip time.

There were strong and impressive runs by Liz Miller and Susan Johnson who should both be pleased with their efforts when the day was certainly starting to warm up in the latter parts of their races.

Katie Haylock made a return to racing whilst Jenny Rawdon and Amy Farnfield picked up excellent PBs with 49:22 and 43:58 respectively! We also had some signs of a comeback from Pete Mackrell, Sam Dear and Kas Gardner who have all been nursing niggles and injuries for most of 2017.

Congratulations to everybody who competed, there was some very good running all round! The full list of results can be found below and the next Club Championships Race is the 10mile race which is at Swineshead on Sunday 10 September. Details can be found in the events calendar.
