Trying to Love Luton

Love Luton Half

by Pete Mackrell

Last weekend, Amy Inchley and I both travelled over to Luton to run in the Love Luton Half Marathon. The race is named as such because Love Luton is a campaign which aims to “create confidence, pride and a positive image for Luton”. With Luton’s reputation, that’s quite an ambition! It aims to do this by organising various events for the community including the Love Luton Half. This year marked the 5th anniversary of the race and they have added a 10k.

Amy had been looking for a local half marathon since the unseasonably warm NSPCC Half in September where she had hoped to run under 1:40 but missed out by a couple of minutes. I entered because I wanted to see where my fitness is as my long injury comeback continues. read more

Where Dreams Come True!!

Disneyland Paris Half

by Andrea Meek

Ever since I read about this race in a running magazine, I wanted to do it. The first half marathon at Disneyland Paris was in 2016 but due to work and family commitments I was unable do it. I was initially disappointed but I promised myself I would sign up for the race in 2017.

I’ve always been a fan of Disney and the characters, even now at 36 years of age I enjoy watching the films with my children. For me, running at Disneyland was something I not just wanted to do, but needed to do. read more

Schoolboy error of the century

I’m not even sure I should be writing this report as I made the cardinal sin of booking a race on 17 September. I’ll clearly never make this schoolboy error again but since I decided to make the best of a bad job I thought I’d write it up.

On the back of my fun in Lanzarote in November I responded to one of my friends, new to running, who decided he wanted to do his first half marathon. On the back of my runner’s high, whilst at Club La Santa, I booked up and paid for the Simply Health Bristol Half Marathon 17 September 2017. You can imagine Andy’s face when I came back into the sports bar and told him what I’d done. However by that time £40 and been spent and I knew I’d have to spend the next few months getting earache from Andy for booking a race on the most important day of the year. read more

Ashridge Trail Half Marathon

Ashridge Trail Half Marathon

by Sam Dear

Last week I was looking through the list of races in the Off-Road Series and realised that I’d actually only raced the Rushmere parkrun and the Round MK Relay. I didn’t think I’d ever do enough to come close to winning the thing, but decided that I needed to get involved in a few more and finish in a respectable position so entered the Ashridge Trail Half.

I’d recently run about 10 miles and felt fine so figured I’d make it round a half. What I didn’t realise though was that I hadn’t actually run more than 10 miles since November 6th when I ran 10.8miles… before that, my longest run was the Berlin marathon in September… so let’s just say I was a little out of practice. read more

Couch to 5k and a Little Bit More

MK Half Marathon

by Susan Johnson

I don’t think there are too many youngsters who take up running at the age of 60 but yep, that’s me!  There I was approaching retirement with colleagues suggesting I would be able to find new hobbies and slow down.  Sounded good to me but where to start?  I’d heard about parkrun and decided to give it a go.  Run, walk was my first attempt (and a few more).  Now, less than three years later and 102 parkruns completed, along with other races in between, I was approaching the start line for my first half marathon at the MK Marathon Weekend.  This was kind of surreal, this was 13.1 miles! read more
