Not so Dirty, Dirt Half

Dirt Half Challenge 2018

by Neil Green

I’d been meaning to do a half marathon again for a while, I ran one in Milton Keynes about a decade ago (1:59:something) but since getting back into running a couple of years ago I have rarely run further than 5 miles. In fact with the warm up and running home afterwards the Monday night ‘Speed’ sessions are often also my longest run of the week.

I’d heard about the Dirt Half from those that ran it in previous years and it appealed for a number of reasons; read more

3 in 3hr – The Challenge Continues

Lee Valley Velopark Half Marathon

by Stu Blofeld

With quite a few LBAC runners competing in an Autumn marathon many of us are putting the final touches to our training and looking for that pre-marathon race sharpener to calm the nerves and help with pace expectations on the big day. I chose to head over to London and run around in circles at the Lee Valley Velopark Half Marathon.

The idea for this blog during my training for the 3in3marathonchallenge was to provide regular weekly updates. Evidently I haven’t being doing that, both because of a lack of time but mainly I think because from week to week during marathon training there isn’t always anything exciting to talk about. I don’t believe in blogging just for blogging sake and I’d much rather have something to say and reflect on that then a continuous monotonous diatrade of thoughts. So with that in mind let’s fly through the last 4 weeks since my last post. read more

A tough one to start! – Amy F’s First Half

The Eco Half Marathon

by Amy Farnfield

Back in December 2017 upon seeing there was to be an Eco Half Marathon in Harpenden held in March 2018 I was intrigued. Harpenden being my home ground through my school years, I decided perhaps this was the challenge I needed for 2018. My running is generally fuelled by a race in my diary, if not I tend to default to the gym. I signed up but kept it quiet. Being somewhat nervous of anything ‘long distance’ which in my mind was anything over a 10k, I needed to attack this head on and I wasn’t going to let on I had this planned. I didn’t need anyone to ask me anything about my training or why I was doing it – this was for me! read more

Winter Half (Take 2)

Winter Half

by Coralie Anderson

It was the morning of the MK Winter Half and I won’t lie, it didn’t fill me with much enthusiasm!  Like many other runners, I felt quite frustrated the event had been postponed in December (but understandably due to the adverse weather conditions). The back end of last year I had been running really well and on track for a PB.  However since the winter months had kicked in I’d really been struggling to get motivated. To be perfectly honest I’d fallen out of love with running and what I use to enjoy had become chore!  I knew today was going to be tough as I’d barely run over the last few weeks. read more

Trying to Love Luton

Love Luton Half

by Pete Mackrell

Last weekend, Amy Inchley and I both travelled over to Luton to run in the Love Luton Half Marathon. The race is named as such because Love Luton is a campaign which aims to “create confidence, pride and a positive image for Luton”. With Luton’s reputation, that’s quite an ambition! It aims to do this by organising various events for the community including the Love Luton Half. This year marked the 5th anniversary of the race and they have added a 10k.

Amy had been looking for a local half marathon since the unseasonably warm NSPCC Half in September where she had hoped to run under 1:40 but missed out by a couple of minutes. I entered because I wanted to see where my fitness is as my long injury comeback continues. read more
