Watford Half Marathon

There were some excellent performances last weekend at the Watford half marathon as three LBAC athletes took on a race that is traditionally a warm-up towards a spring marathon.

First home was Ian Hosley, who's time of 1.28.57 was a personal best over the distance and continues an excellent run of form that Ian has had on the road. Following him back into Cassiobury Park was Fred Watt, who's time of 1.34.46 saw him finish in 293rd out 1849 runners, which is very good indeed for our leading V60. The third and final person to cross the line for the club was Jill Richardson, who was delighted to smash five minutes of her previous best time over the distance to complete the 13.1 miles in 1.43.48. Apparently they are all looking to continue their strong form in the Milton Keynes half marathon in March. read more

Bedford Half Marathon

Twelve LBAC athletes enjoyed success in the last club championship race of the year at the Bedford Half Marathon. The day was chilly and damp, but the rain stayed away to give everyone excellent running conditions over the tough undulating course.

There were two ladies who took the opportunity to compete in a big half marathon close to home. Claire Kleanthous is looking to increase her running, having spent a few years focussing on the other two aspects of triathlon and came home in 2.18. Ahead of Claire, Amy Inchley retained her half marathon title with a time of 1.55.12. Having had an up and down couple of months, she was pretty pleased with the solid time. read more

Peter Smashes PB

Last weekend Peter Mackrell made the short trip over to the Stevenage for the annual half marathon hosted by Fairlands Valley Spartans. On what was a pretty wet and windy day, Peter's northern upbringing made him feel right at home. Not only did he finish in an excellent 14th position out of 677 finishers he smashed his personal best time by recording a superb 1.19.55, although he has commented that a V45 lady pipped him by 2 seconds – sorry Peter. This just goe sto show what a bit of serious marathon training can do for your times as Peter is in training for the Luton marathon at the beginning of December and we wish him well in that. read more
