London 10K

Ruth Conquest completed her first event since the London Marathon last bank holiday Monday, by making the trip down to London again for the Bupa 10,000m. It uses much of the last 3 miles of the marathon route. Having had a day she'd like to forget at the marathon, Ruth had a much more successful trip this time around. She has come a long way from being unable to run at all a couple of years ago and completed her first ever 10K in 69:37 with an even split of 34:34 at 5K. This was quicker than she had dared hope and now has her sights set on breaking the hour mark. read more

Round Milton Keynes Relay

Why is it that whenever LBAC enter a summer relay, it's always boiling hot? The MKAC runners obviously had a bit of inside knowledge as LBAC managed to turn out three teams this year, which was just as many as MK.

The race is a four leg relay, starting and finishing in Stony Stratford, using redways, footpaths and canal towpaths to go around the outside edge of Milton Keynes in a 31 mile race with legs of 10.1, 5.6, 9.6 and 6 miles. The idea is that you everyone predicts their time and starts are based on your teams total prediction, with the idea being that we all finish at the same time (similar to the Stag). read more

Charndon 5K

Last Tuesday, young Gail had something of a blast from the past as she went over to Charndon near Bicester for their annual 5K race, hosted by Alchester RC. Back in the mists of time, when we were all vaguely young there was a series of races in that area called teh Fox Four and they became something of an annual event. The series has long gone, but a couple of the races still remain and Charndon is one.

The course is pretty fast and flat, as is shown by the host of club records that come from the race, including the senior men's best of 15.39. On this occasion Gail ran around the course in 19.02 and therefore set a new record herself, whilst finishing as 3rd lady overall. read more

Stevington 12K

It is a very rare day when we can speak of an athlete from LBAC winning an open road race, with the last being 8-10 years ago. However, last weekend Simon Coombes made his short annual pilgrimage to the the Stevington 12K which takes place on the same course as the Oakley 20 North of Bedford. He's been close on a couple fo occasions before, but his time of 42.10 was enough to give him victory by a minute and a half on this occasion. So congratulations to Simon and now, the real question is whether he'll be able to defend his title next year after 12 months of sleepless nights! read more

Bedford 6

Two long standing LBAC members made the trip over to Bedford this week for the third race in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series at Priory Marina. The route is flat and on a still day is also pretty fast as it goes around the lakes on some nice leisure paths.

Richard Inchley has long advocated the series as some good fun, high quality races that take place throughout May and June and he had a reasonable run to come home as 8th V60 in 48.20. The significant appearance of the day however came from our very own Dave Adams! Dave has struggled for the last few years with a succession of injuries but has been training regularly over the last couple of months and completed his first race for a few years in a time of 55.37 for the out-loop-back course. Keep your eyes peeled for further sitings of our elusive handicapper in his running shorts! read more
