‘Tis The Season to Be Running

2016 Advent Running Challenge

by Jo Sharples

25 runs in 25 days… you must be joking? Up until now, I had yet to brave the thought of doing a running streak challenge, and merely admired those crazy enough to entertain it. My training throughout November had been okay, but I felt like I had become a little unenthused by running. I had heard of the Advent Running challenge before and decided 2016 would be my year to try it. An advent chocolate and a run a day- what a perfect balance!

The Advent running collective was founded in 2014 by 2 running enthusiasts. They are both an online and actual community and training sessions are based in London. The AR challenge is a free challenge, where the aim is to do 30mins of activity a day from 1-25th December. read more

Southern Inter Counties

Not only were the Club’s senior members out representing their Club last weekend, but four of our juniors were selected to run for Bedfordshire in the SEAA Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Oxford on Saturday.

The weather was a total contrast from the early season visit to the same course at Horspath, with it getting wetter and wetter as the day wore on. The U13 County team saw Daniel May making his debut at this level and Daniel Horner making the U15 boys team for the first time.
The girls were again represented in the U13s by Niquole Carter, with Dana Carter in the U15 race, well done to you all. read more

A Sunday of Top Times

By Andy Inchley

Sunday seemed to be the day for it. It was chilly, but not the biting December days we sometimes get, nor was it pouring with rain, which could easily have been the case. Our team of Buzzards spread themselves across three events in the hope of strong performances and fast times. It’s far to say though that I don’t think the results achieved were quite what was expected.

The more low key event of the day saw Simon, Ben, Amy F and Alison testing out the new tarmac around Houghton Regis. The Fun Runners had kindly arranged with the builders and the council that we could have a 5K race on the new bypass before it opened and they invited runners from all the Leighton clubs. It was unfortunate that it clashed with the Winter Half but there was no choice and all four of the LBAC reps running well with Simon and Ben coming home first and second. read more

Perfect PBs in the Puddles

MK Winter Half – 11th December 2016

by Maria Williams and Stuart Read

Maria

My worst nightmare occurred the night before when I began to get a sore throat, dosed up with sudafed I went to bed hoping that I would wake up in the morning recovered. “Well?” I hear you ask and the answer is I woke up thinking I’d swallowed a razor blade, my throat was raw. I assembled my kit scoffed my race breakfast of 2 Babybel and a brioche roll then headed out. Outside the cold breeze began to make me gag, I was doubting if I would even make the start line, but Richard told me to do what you can and at least just try. So we arrived with minutes to spare, squeezed into the pen at the 1.40 space, I thought, “should I be here?” read more

Tremendous Improvements for Abi & Billy

December’s Stag Trophy race saw a flurry of excellent performances from across the club’s membership.

First home on the night was Abi May, who started first and was never caught. This was not really surprising as she ran more than four minutes quicker than her debut in October! As someone who has never considered herself a runner she is making fantastic progress. Next home was Joe Bidlake-Hull who was making his own debut and has now set a stall out for Dave.

Billy Mead has never really run at his best in the Stag in the past, but a life away from university and a little more training has seen his form soar in recent weeks. His time of 13:34 was a 36 second PB and saw him move from 40th to 18th on the all-time list for the Stag as well as running the fastest time by anyone so far this season. read more
