Juniors July 2012

Family Athletics Day

We have a brand new exciting club event for this year involving athletes from the junior and adult sections. We have hired the athletics track at Stantonbury, Milton Keynes exclusively for LBAC from 12 – 3 pm on Sunday 15th July. This will be our version of the Olympics, the LBAC Games. We will be running a range of fun team and timed events with prizes available. Events are: Shot put(SP), Long Jump(LJ), 100m, and Javelin for all. (U13 and above). Under 11’s will compete at 600, LJ, SP and 100. U17/U15 can also join in with the 3000 or 5000 meters that the adults will be partaking in as well as these other events. There will be mixed team relays to finish the day.

It is a great opportunity to run and experience the track in a relaxed environment. There will also be a chance for younger brothers and sisters to have a race and jump. Please complete the proforma at the end or alternatively email us to confirm you will be attending. It is a free event and we would encourage maximum attendance enabling us to train using facilities not normally available at Vandyke. The greater the uptake the more opportunities we will look to provide in future. So promises to be a fun afternoon.

Bury St Edmunds League meeting 1 July

We had a fantastic day, taking a coach of athletes covering all age groups from U11s to Senior Men. We had 3 athletes representing the club for the first time; Megan Westrope, competing in the hurdles, ehich she had never even tried before, her favoured event of 800m and long jump, James Taylor competing in the 80m, 600m and Shut Put and never stopped smiling all day, and Zara Butler in the 80m, long jump and shot put which she finished in 2nd place. These were great debut performances.

Our athletes summer training is paying off and personal bests were a plenty with many athletes achieving them in all 3 events – well done to all. The team performance of the day goes to the U13 girls – Sarah Plummer, Emma Evans, Jade Lindars, Zarah Taylor and Megan Westrope who were an amazing 2nd place overall. Our 2nd place in the relay clinched victory over Braintree by 1 point – come on the girls!! Other highlights were Kieran Philpott 2nd in a highly competitive hurdles race despite not trying it before, and McKenna Keefe winning the Shot put. Full results will be emailed to competitors and we will put on the club board at training for all to see. We have one remaining league event at Cambridge on the 29 July.

Are you interested in becoming a coach with LBAC?

Our membership continues to grow and to fully support our varied training programme we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are able to help out particularly on Thursday evenings in the formal capacity of a coach. It is a great opportunity to become a volunteer in your local community. If you are interested in finding out more please ask Nick.

Tesco vouchers

Thank you for everyone for sollecting the vouchers and smashing our original target to bank in excess of 4600. Using these and previous banked vouchers we have been able to order hoops, bean bags, statix jumps, pvc shots, stop watches, first aid kit, clipboards, indoor hurdles, cones and markers. This kit will be used all year round and is much needed for our growing membership.

Summer training

We will run training on 24 and 26 July (first week of holidays), with NO TRAINING IN AUGUST. We will return to Vandyke on 4th September.
