Boxing Day Run

Unfortunately, this year's boxing day handicap race was postponed due to dangerous icy conditions on the pavements of Leighton Buzzard following freezing temperatures and overnight rain in the town. (The current plan, which is yet to be confirmed, is to hold the race on Sunday 17th January instead.) As a result the 22 runners from both LBAC and the Fun Runners crossed town and went for a sociable run around Stockgrove Park, where the underfoot conditions were a lot more suitable for running, on what turned out to be a beautiful day. Here is the motley crew who ran off a few of their mince pies. read more

Bedford Half Marathon

Twelve LBAC athletes enjoyed success in the last club championship race of the year at the Bedford Half Marathon. The day was chilly and damp, but the rain stayed away to give everyone excellent running conditions over the tough undulating course.

There were two ladies who took the opportunity to compete in a big half marathon close to home. Claire Kleanthous is looking to increase her running, having spent a few years focussing on the other two aspects of triathlon and came home in 2.18. Ahead of Claire, Amy Inchley retained her half marathon title with a time of 1.55.12. Having had an up and down couple of months, she was pretty pleased with the solid time. read more

Very Tight at the Top

The overall situation at the top of division two of the Chiltern Cross Country League could barely be any closer. After three races there is just two of points between LBAC and Wycombe Phoenix at the top. Considering we have approximately 2100 points it is virtually nothing. Additionally Gade Valley Harriers are only 50 points behind, and Thame Runners just over 100 back.

The most recent races held at Upton Court Park in Slough over a flat fast course, were kicked off as always by the U11’s. As the sole representative Luke Orlando ran well to finish in 45th position. Next out on the course were our squad of U13 girls who managed to field a complete team of three for the first time this season with Lauren Parker joining Beth Tipitte and Kirst-Anya Shefferd for the lap of the park. Beth lead them girls home in 20th place with Lauren and Kirsty-Anya having a little battle between themselves to take 30th & 32nd respectively. read more
