Junior Awards Night & Quiz

On Friday 22nd March, we will be holding our Junior Awards Night and Quiz. This is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of our junior section following their impressive year. It's also a bit of fun with the quiz. Everyone is welcome to attend, feel free to bring along other halves, children, etc.

The venue is Cottesloe School in Wing, from 7pm-11pm (please note it is NOT at the football club this year). It's £5 per team of 6 and each team must include a Junior, but don't worry if you don't have a junior to hand because we can share them out on the night! National Cross-Country Championship

Last Saturday marked the 126th edition of the English National Cross-Country Championship. The venue was Herrington Country Park in Sunderland, the site of a former colliery. Due to the travel involved, LBAC participation was always going to be low and so it proved with just three likely lads wearing the purple and yellow. Pete Mackrell and Chris Norman were making a weekend trip of it staying in nearby Durham, whilst Joe Hurley travelled on the day. Second claim member Simon Coombes was also staying in Durham, he would be running for Herne Hill Harriers. read more

Stag Race Five

On a very cold and breezy night in Leighton, four club members remarkably managed to achieve personal best times over the 4K Stag trophy course and correspondingly took the first four places in the race which was a little low on numbers.

First home on the night was Chris Large who broke 19 minutes for the first time to earn 25 points. However, the overall leader is still Warren Rose, whose 15:30 on the night brought him home in second. Amelia Wallace broke her three year old personal best time to take third while Jordan Clay was the second quickest time of the night with 14:14 in fourth. read more

Mud on the Heath

It may not technically be the last cross-country of the season but for those not making the trip to Sunderland for the Nationals and who haven't qualified to represent the county, the rearranged Southern Champs were a final opportunity to dirty the spikes this season.

Last Saturday was the new date put in place after the original one was cancelled in January and so as a result participant numbers were a fair bit down on previous years as many people had entered based on the first date and couldn't make the second. Having said that, LBAC still had 22 people doning the kit and Richard, Amy and Nick also offering invaluable support to still have a very good turn-out. read more

Finish with a Flourish

There were around 80 people from LBAC out on the fields of Wing yesterday for the final Chiltern League fixture of the season. Of those, about 57 were running, which was a superb effort in itself, but really made possible by all the others who sacrificed their Saturdays to marshal and support the club in many ways.

Before I go on and talk about performances on the day and how well we all did there are other things that should be mentioned. Whilst we have to some good runners, at the moment we don't have any world beaters – although Nick's working on it – and as result our performances rely on us getting everyone out at every fixture. This strength sees us win through time and again against much bigger clubs than ours and this season the commitment of many individuals have been far greater than ever. read more
