January Stag Trophy

The January stag is traditionally known as the time to pick up some good points as the weather is often lousy so there are low numbers and people have eaten and drunk too much over the festive period. This year however, this could not be further from the truth.

A fantastic turn-out of 25 (plus 5 helpers / joggers) made for a really good race with everyone pushing each other to some very good times in unusually good conditions. In fact, the top 16 were all inside their handicap and of the remainder, 5 were doing either their first or second Stag race, which can take a little bit of learning. read more

Christmas Runs

Just to let you know of a few social running opportunities over the festive period. Firstly, on Sunday there are a couple of options;

Christmas Kanter – Sunday 23rd
This is a social event where groups or individuals have to complete a cross-country course by map reading and solving a few clues. It will take place this year at the top of Church Road near Woburn Sands and costs £1. There are two options of a 10K or 15K route and starters go off in their own time between 8.45 and 9.15am.
Andy and Richard are both leading teams doing the 15K. Amy is doing the 10K. All three groups have already recruited a few members but the more the merrier, or you are welcome to do your own thing.

December Stag

We finally managed to get the second stag race of the season off on the 12th of December on a crisp evening in Leighton. Whilst the temperatures were low, the lack of rain meant no ice at all on the course and the complete lack of a breeze made for very good running conditions in the end.

The cold temperatures and the date of the race clearly didn't help numbers as we were reduced to just 13 hardy souls on the night, but the conditions meant that seven of them beat their handicap and even the final finisher earned 13 points. read more

Club La Santa 2012

"Eight seconds, can you believe it?". Imagine hearing that in a wee Scottish accent on balmy but breezy Wednesday afternoon in November and you will be able to picture Fiona feeling robbed at Club la Santa! The eight seconds to which she was referring was the overall gap between herself and Dave Adams after four days and thirty miles of running around the roads, volcanoes and beaches of Lanzarote.

Our party of seventeen this year was made up of mostly LBAC representatives but also contained Terry and Dave Stanley from Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers and Julie, Neil and Fay from MK. As ever, the 23rd club trip to Grotty was seen by most as an opportunity to get away from the miserable November weather in the UK and have a couple of shandies in between a plethora of sporting opportunities. read more
