Fast and Furious in MK

Okay, so maybe a bit dramatic of a title but not far from it. There was only one reason I entered the MK Festival of Run 10km and that was a PB target that has eluded me for years, the 45 minute mark. A little context for those who don’t know me: For the last couple of years my running has suffered and my times in triathlons have become slower and slower (my last 10km was 50 minutes) and although I can take age into account I had honestly lost my running mojo.  That is until I joined LBAC. read more

And then there were three!

Following the February Stag Trophy race there was still a wide open competition in terms of potential victors, with 13 people still in the hunt for the coveted award that represents the person who has shown consistent improvement throughout the season. Last night's penultimate race put something of a different complexion on things.

Sixteen members made it down to Parson's Close ready to be sent on their way by Dave and Pete. Possibly the harshest start was given to Caroline Mann, who as a brand new potential member knew nothing of the race and so arrived at Tiddenfoot for a normal run at 7:28! She was driven down to the start, given very hurried instructions and told to go! She made it around all three laps so hopefully will be slightly more prepared in April. read more

Biggleswade Trophy

20 something Leighton Buzzard Under 11 and Under 13 Athletes turned out at Biggleswade on Sunday with the mission of relieving Bedford of the Sportshall Challenge Trophy and bringing it back to Leighton Buzzard for the first time in 15 years (ever):

What a team!

We got off to an excellent start with a win in the obstacle relay by our Under 13 girls Tianne Gaye-Clark, Dana Carter, McKenna Keefe and Amy Killick and followed that with another Under 11 win from Georgia Lorraine, Niquole Carter, Sophie Hawes and Inkie Parkinson. Confidence grew as our Under 11 Boys went on to win several relay events with a dynamite debut performance from Evan Hirst-Mitchell. Scott Towell and Ewan Bell ensured a win for our Boys in the Under 13 and Under 11 Age Group respectively in Javelin; Daniel Boulder and Joshua-Walker Croft had no idea that their Tuesday night standing long jump practice would lead to a team trophy but it did. read more

Record Numbers at the National

The skies were blue overhead and there was little wind blowing across Hampstead Heath on Saturday, but a layer of overnight snow was still present on the ground for the early risers to see around the North London park. It didn't last long, and for the 5000 athletes making their way to London it was just that little bit more water to add to the quagmire like conditions that were developing on the heath.

There was a decent contingent of runners and supporters from Leighton who travelled by various means for the iconic race around the fields of Parliament Hill. It has been noted by cross-country officials that the last couple of years has seen a resurgence in cross-country running with leagues and big championship races getting record numbers and this combined with the good weather on the day meant that over 5000 people took part all told. read more
