Female Domination!!

The fifth Stag trophy race of the season saw a swathe of women come home at the front of the field with just one man able to get into the top six on a damp February evening.

The overall numbers were a little down this month, with just 19 people battling for the win worth 25 points in the quest for overall Stag victory, but for those who did make it along there were some good points on offer as a result.

The finish was a close run thing with Suzy Beech just taking the lead from Abi May as she came into the park at the end. With Suzy going clear there was then a rush as Dan Webb, Abi, Jenny Rawdon and Jo Sharples all came home within five seconds of other and Amy Killick completing the top six a few seconds back. read more

Freezing But Fast Round the Stag

January is the middle race of the Stag Trophy season and is when those with a little experience start eyeing up the competition on the approach to the “business end” of the series.

The first race of 2017 saw some very low temperatures, with the mercury struggling to get above zero degrees. However, with a minimal amount of wind if you were prepared to go for it there were fast times available. This was demonstrated by 5 PB’s and lots of season’s best times amongst the 24 who turned up. read more

Continued improvement from Mark

In November 2015 Mark Adkins ran his first Stag trophy race in 20.32 and finished near the back of the field. A year on and having now completed six of the 2.5 mile handicap races, he has six PB’s to show for his efforts and is fast approaching the 18 minute mark.

Yesterday’s time of 18.15 earned him fourth place on the night but takes him into an early lead in the overall standings. Nothing much should be read into it yet as the trophy could still be taken home by someone who hasn’t even run a race yet this season. His closest challenger is Nikki Inchley, 2 points behind, who came home second last night to follow-up her fifth place from the October race. It’s Nikki’s first proper season of running for about 15 years, but is rapidly improving. read more

Records at Stag

The Stag Trophy race of October 2016 should go down as breaking a new threshold for LBAC.

I believe 35 runners is a record attendance for our monthly race that has been going since the dawn of the club almost exactly 40 years ago. On top of that, and possibly more importantly there were more women participating than men, with 18 completing the course. Additionally we had a few juniors and a healthy collection from the beginners group so it really did bring everyone together.

With so many new people getting involved at the start of the season it is great to see but had the potential for chaos so thank you to all of those that helped to make it work alongside Dave and Pete. I gather it all worked pretty well. read more

It’s Tough at the Top

Coming into the final Stag Trophy Race of the season there were five potential victors of the overall title for the season and four of the five were in great form having achieved PB’s in March.

Most of the cards, however, were in the hands of James Cusack who knew that finishing in any of the top six places would earn him the title, but there was no way that the others would lie down without a fight.

It wasn’t the warmest of April evenings with mercury just battling to get over 8° and a bit of a stiff breeze coming from the South West making both the alleyway and Grove Road a bit of a battle. Despite this, twenty-three people, plus a number of supporters turned up to be involved and the lighter evening makes quite a big difference to the route. read more
